Facilities & Services

Buildings

Classrooms
Scoresby Primary School has 13 well-equipped and modern classrooms including 9 in the main building and 4 in portables (introduced in the last 5 years). Each classroom is fully air-conditioned and heated with split systems.  All classrooms have at least 3 computers for everyday use and form part of our Information Communication Technology (ICT) Program.

 Hall

In 2007, building was completed on a brand new multi-purpose hall.  The hall is suitable for a wide range of community events such as assemblies and school productions and also provides a facility for our, ‘Out of School Hours Care’ Program.  Features of our new hall include a fully computerised data screen and sound system, as well as a special 'sports floor' which makes it suitable for indoor games, gymnastics, dancing and PE activities.

Interactive Whiteboards

In addition to the Library, one fully computerised Interactive Whiteboard has been installed in each level of the school. Interactive Whiteboards can be used in exactly the same way as a whiteboard, projector or computer except that they are fully interactive, meaning that children can actually touch the whiteboard screen to manoeuvre objects.  It is anticipated that over the next few years, more Interactive Whiteboards will be purchased for classroom use with the eventual target of having an Interactive Whiteboard in every classroom.

 Computer Lab

To assist with our ICT Program, we have a Computer Lab of 21 computers, brand new and installed in July 2007.  Each computer has full access to the Internet and Email (each child in Grade 3-6 has their own email address) and is installed with a range of educational programs such as Microsoft Office, Kahootz, KidPix, Maths and Literacy Programs. We are very excited to have received a building grant which will see the creation of a brand new and improved computer lab which will house 25 computers by the end of the year.

 Library

We have an extremely well-stocked Library which is continuously being updated by our librarian to ensure that students and staff have a wide range of resources that they can access, including books, posters, DVDs and CD roms.

 Canteen

We have a fully functioning canteen stocked with a range of healthy food (including salad rolls, fresh fruit and yoghurt) in keeping with our school's healthy eating policy.

Grounds
Scoresby Primary School is set on spacious grounds in the middle of a medium density residential area.  Recent housing developments neighbouring our school have increased the number of residents in the area. We are bordered by two relatively quiet roads (Ingrid St and Orson St) with our nearest main road being Stud Road.  Scoresby Primary is approximately a 30 minute drive (South East) to Melbourne's CBD along Eastlink, one of the cities main arterials.

The school's grounds are attractively vegetated and maintained. Children and staff take great care to ensure that our school is kept free of rubbish via lidded bins positioned around the school during play times.

 Playground Facilities

We have two playgrounds (a senior and a junior), a large oval complete with Australian Rules Football Goals, as well as two basketball/netball courts, cricket nets and plenty of asphalt accommodating games such as racquetball and down-ball.

 All-Weather Running Track

In 2006, an all-weather running track was installed around our oval.  The running track is used by staff, children and parents of our school community. As part of our extensive PE program, the track facilitates the increase of fitness levels amongst our students.  This is in keeping with our school's motto of staying "Healthy, Active and Engaged".

 Vegetable Patch

In 2007, a group of children, parents and staff from our school community were involved in the planting and fencing of a Vegetable Patch.  The Patch includes vegetables such as rosemary, parsley, peas, onions, lettuce, spinach and carrots. It is intended to give the children a hands on understanding of what is involved in growing food.  Vegetables from the patch will also be used in our Integrated Student Cooking Group.

Services

Out of School Hours Care (OSHC)

For working parents who find it difficult to either pick up or drop off students at the prescribed school times, we offer an ‘Out of School Hours Care’ Program.  Based in our brand new hall, OSHC offers parents convenient and safe child care on site both before and after school hours.  Scoresby OSHC offers children the opportunity to play, have fun and develop relationships with their peers in a structured and familiar environment.  A healthy breakfast before school and afternoon tea are included in the program. Also available is 'Active After School Care', which is part of the Government's Active for Life program. It includes activities such as lacrosse, tennis and cricket. Students can take part in 'theme' activities on pupil free days.

Speech Pathologist/Occupational Therapist

A Speech Pathologist and Occupational Therapist visit our school on a weekly basis to conduct specialised lessons for students with additional needs eg. speech impairments and language difficulties.

Integration Program

At Scoresby Primary School, we cater for a wide range of students, including those with special needs. Our Integration Program caters for children with a range of special needs, including physical and intellectual impairments. Funded children are given access to quality classroom support with one of our expert number of Integration Aides.  We have a disabled toilet as well as wheelchair access to all buildings. Children with special needs are also given access to a range of other programs directed at their needs, including a 'cooking club'.  At Scoresby Primary School, we are very proud of our Integration Program and believe that it gives children with special needs the opportunity to experience life within the community in which they live.  We believe that our school is enriched as a result.

School Chaplain/School Psychologist

Scoresby Primary School offers all members of our Community access to a School Chaplain, who visits our school on a weekly basis.  Access to a Psychologist is also available to assist children in need.

School Nurse

We have a school nurse who visits the school regularly to conduct prep health assessments and other individual assessments as requested.  Students in Years 5 and 6 are also given the opportunity every second year to participate in a Health Education Program where they learn about a range of health, body and hygiene issues appropriate to their age level. Students from all year levels also participate regularly in the Life Education Program facilitated by a visit from the Life-Ed van.
